    Aquarius is Action: Greta Thunberg

Now that both Jupiter and Saturn are in Aquarius, it’s time to take a look at some movers and shakers who are ushering in this new phase or shall we say, the New Age of Aquarius. Uranus is associated with Aquarius. Some keywords that apply to both are equality, the environment, grassroots movement, technology, inventions and the future. When I thought about who embodies the revolutionary Aquarian spirit, Greta Thunberg came to mind. Let’s take a look at her chart and see what drives her to accomplish her mission.

Greta is the Swedish teenager turned international star and climate activist. At 11 years old she learned about the climate crisis, which pushed her into a  depression for four years. Once she started protesting, she came out of her depression. She was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, which Greta calls her “superpower” instead of a disability.

At the age of 15, she started spending days protesting on the steps of the Swedish Parliament with a sign that said, “School Strike for Climate”. She called for a one day a week protest, “Fridays for Future”. Her actions were soon picked up by the media, particularly social media. Other students also started striking for the environment. There were soon multi-city protests that involved over a million students each. The result of her leadership is now being called, “The Greta Effect”. In 2019 she addressed the United Nations Climate Action Summit where she gave a fierce scolding to world leaders and politicians.

“This is all wrong. I should be back in school on the other side of the ocean. Yet you all come to us young people for hope. How dare you!  You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words. And yet I’m one of the lucky ones. People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction, and all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth. How dare you!”

She has received a long list of honors and awards but refuses to accept them if she has to fly to the ceremonies, since flying is in her view has too large of a carbon footprint. Greta has the honor of being the youngest recipient of the Time Person of the Year. She was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for three consecutive years as well as numerous other prestigious awards. How does all this show up in her astrology chart?

Greta was born on January 3, 2003 in Stockholm, Sweden with both the Sun and Moon in the sign of Capricorn. She was born on the New Moon in Capricorn. The New Moon is a time to set intentions and Capricorn is an earth sign, so already her chart has a focus on the environment. She also has her Mercury, the planet of communication, in the sign of Capricorn. What she thinks about is the Earth. Capricorn is very determined and will work tirelessly to succeed.

The red and blue lines in the chart indicate the geometric pattern in the sky when Greta was born. Red lines represent her karmic mission, or her lifetime motivation and drive, while the blue lines show talents. Her main red lines point to Venus and Mars, both in intense Scorpio, in her 8th house. Venus is her passion, which is very directed in powerful Scorpio. Venus is strengthened by Mars the warrior. So Greta is a powerful warrior for the environment. These planets are the center and the heart of her astrology chart. Greta is absolutely using this passionate pair well on her mission.

One thing to note about Greta’s generation is that they all have the two slow-moving planets, Uranus and Neptune, in Aquarius when they were born. This generation is predisposed to wanting to change the world. Their entire lives they have been digital as cell phones are an integral part of their lives. Some apps are even necessary for schoolwork, so they were born hardwired and ready to collectively change the world. The union of grassroots and social media is a perfect marriage.

To make Venus and Mars even more powerful, they are square to revolutionary Uranus and dramatic Jupiter. Uranus is often involved with crisis, emergencies and accidents. Greta absolutely sees global warming as a crisis of epic proportions. Uranus demands change,. Greta is confronting world leaders and exposing the need for change. Jupiter loves a party and will magnify any situation he is involved with. Greta’s Jupiter is in Leo, the leader and performer. Oddly, she has a condition called Mutism, which makes it very difficult for people to speak in public. By nature, she is actually shy and prefers not to speak much, but she has chosen to be on international stage to accomplish her mission.

Her other red line is from Saturn at the bottom of her chart opposing powerful Pluto at the top. Saturn is the authority figure and isn’t afraid to confront people in positions of power. Industrial and political leaders are represented by Pluto.

In summary: Her red lines or challenges are about tackling difficult situations, find solutions, and confronting people in charge to accomplish her mission.

Her three blue lines show her talents and destiny. One blue line is from dominant Pluto to dramatic Jupiter, which shows that her leadership and confidence is successful when dealing with authorities. She’s ruthless. Her second blue line is from radical Uranus to the disciplined Saturn. This is a wonderful collaboration between two very different planets. Saturn will offer perseverance and focus to help Uranus, whose job it is to change the world. She’s willing to work hard so she can bring a new awareness to humanity. Her last blue line of talent is from the healer, Neptune to the North Node at the bottom of the chart. The North Node indicates her destiny and being positively aligned with compassionate Neptune, means she will  help heal the world, especially the oceans.

In summary: Her blue lines or talents show international success with changing policies to help transform the world and bring balance to the Earth.

To summarize her chart: Her gift of confronting world leaders along with her diligent focus on change will inspire humanity to start taking care of the Earth.

We need to support determined youth, like Greta, who want to look at the big picture and be bold enough to have a voice, even when it is an uncomfortable discussion. I guess it would take a double Capricorn to pull this off.
